Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration the absorption is good. It is distributed
widely.
Oral
PULMONARY AND EXTRAPULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS: Given as part of multi drug
regimes at doses shown below.
Adult: 15-25mg/kg/day Continous, upto 50mg/kg intermittent 2-3 times a
week.
Children: 10-15mg/kg/day continous.
Action
Bactericidal action against Mycobacterial tuberculosis. Acts on
rapidly growing pathogens in cavity walls. Also effective in
slow-growing pathogens. Has some action against a typical opportunistic
mycobacteria suchs as M. kansasii, M. avium-cellulare complex (MAC) etc.
Adverse
Effect & Precaution
Optic neuritis, visual disturbance, colour blindeness, hyperuricaemia,
skin rash, drug fever, malaise, confusion, disorientation, headache,
nausea, anorexia, vomiting and abdominal pain.
Precaution: Periodic assessment of visual function.
Pregnancy: Use with caution.
Breast Feeding: Use with caution.
Man: Use with caution.
