Indication
& Dosage





Oral

SHORT TERM MANAGEMENT OF MODERATE TO SEVERE PAIN: 10-20mg initially
then 10mg every 4-6 hours. Not more than 40mg daily and for not more
than 7 days.

IM/IV

SHORT TERM MANAGEMENT OF MODERATE TO SEVERE PAIN: Start with 10mg IV
OR IM. Then 10-30mg every 4-6 hours. Maximum 90mg/day Max duration for 2
days. When changing from parenteral to oral use maximum daily dose of all
forms should be 90mg. Elderly: Max daily dose is 60mg Children: Not
enough data on safety. Renal impairment: Reduced dosage with monitoring
of function.

Action




Has more prominent analgesic action than other NSAIDs which makes it
more useful as an analgesic than as an anti-inflammatory or antipyretic.
Action is mainly due to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. No action
at the opioid receptors.

Interaction

 

Anticogulants: May prolong prothrombin time.

Beta-blockers: Antihypertensive effect may be impaired.

Cyclosporine: Nephrotoxicity of both agents may be increased.

Lithium: Serum lithium levels may be increased resulting in toxicity.

Hydantoins: Serum hydantoin levels increased resulting in increased
efficacy and toxic effects

Methotrexate: Risk of methtrexate toxicity (stomatitis, bone marrow
suppression, nephrotoxic.

Aspirin: Plasma concentration of ketorolac may be decreased and may
increase the incidence of GI EFFECT.

Adverse Effect
& Precautions





Nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, diarhoea,
headache, drowsiness, dizziness, skin rash & sweating



Precaution: Hepatic and renal dysfunction.
Not to be used in children. In GI disease to be used with caution.

Pregnancy: Uses with caution

Breast Feeding: Use with caution

Man: May be given in reduced dose.
