It is rapidly absorbed form the GI tract, metabolised in teh liver and excreted in urine as the glucurionide and sulphate conjugates of its metabolites. Small amount is excreted in faeces.
PAINFUL SKELETAL MUSCLE SPASM ASSOCIATED WTIH MUSCULO-SKELETAL DISORDERS: Upto 1.5g q.i.d. reduced to maintenance dose of 1g q.i.d. Elderly: Lower doses starting at 250mg t.i.d.
ACUTE SKELETAL MUSCLE SPASM VIOLENT SPASM I TETANUS: 2-3g IV over 15 mins followed by 2g IV every 6 hrs.
Children: Tetanus: 15mg/kg.
Methocarbamol is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant whose precise mode action is not known. It would cause general depression of nervous system
Alcohol and other CNS depressant durgs: CNS depressant effects potentiated. Anoretics and anticholinergics: Efficay increased by methocarbamol.
Lab Tests: Causes colour interference in certain screening tests for 5-hydroxy-indoleacetic acid(SHIAA) and Vanillyl mandelic acid (VMA).
Effect & Precaution
Nausea,anoxeria, skin rash, vertigo, drowsiness, headache, fever.
Precaution: Impairment of hepatic or renal fucntion.
Pregnancy: Use with caution.
Breast Feeding: Use with caution.
Man: May be used in reduced dose.
