Phenazopyridine hydrochloride is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is excreted mainly in the urine; up to 65% may be excreted as unchanged phenazopyridine and 18% as paracetamol.

FOR SYMPTOMATIC RELIEF OF PAIN BURNING, URGENCY, FREQUENCY AND OTHER
DISCOMFORTS ARISING FROM IRRITATION OF THE LOWER URINARY TRACT MUCOSA
CAUSED BY INFECTION, TRAUMA, SURGERY, ENDOSCOPIC PROCEDURES, OR PASSAGE
OF SOUND OR CATHETERS: ADULTS: 200mg t.i.d after food. When used with an
antibacterial agent for UTI; phenazopyridine dose duration should not
exceed 2 days.
Action
It is an azo dye that exerts a urinary tract analgesic effect. After
oral administration, the drug is excreted in the urine where it exterts
a topical analgesic effect on the mucosa of the urinary tract. This
action helps to relieve pain, burning, urgency & frequency
associated cystitis, prostatitis & urethritis.
Adverse Effect & Precautions
Nausea, abdominal discomfort, jaundice, haemolytic anaemia,
methaemoglobinaemia.
Long term use should be avoided. The urine colour turns orange red which
is harmless
Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed.
Breast Feeding: Use with caution.
Man: Use with caution.
