Piperacillin is acid sensitive. It is eliminated by glomerular filtration & tubular secretion in the kidneys.

SERIOUS INFECTIONS CAUSED BY SUSCEPTIBLE ORGANISMS LIFE-THREATENING
PAEDIATRIC INFECTION: Less severe infection 6-8g/day. In severe and
complicated infection 6-8g/day. In severe and complicated infections
12-18g/day in 4 equally div doses 7-10 days. Children: 100-300mg/kg/day
in 3-4 div doses. 7-10day.
PREOPERATIVE PROPHYLAXIS: 3 doses of 2g each IV OR IM. First dose given
1-2hrs beforem 2nd dose towards the end and the 3rd dose 6hrs after
surgery.
NOTE: Renal impairment: Dose modification related to creatinine
clearance (CC)

Action
Broad spectrum of activity against all major Gram-positive and
Gram-negative organisms except those producing betalactamases. The most
active penicillin against Gram-Negative and pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Bactericidal through inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis.
Platelet dysfunction leading to bleeding. Superinfection, local pain, thrombophlebitis, lactation
Precaution to be taken while taking cephalosporins.
Pregnancy: May be used.
Breast Feeding: Use with caution
Man: May be used.
