Pharmacokinetics
.

 



It is poorly absorbed from the GT tract. Following inhaltion only 8-10%
of the drug is deposited in the lungs from where it is rapidly absorbed
and excreted unchanged in the urine and bile.  Less than 7% of a
intranasal dose is absorbed. Approximately 0.03% of an ophthalmic dose
is absorbed.

& Dosage




Inhalation

PROPHYLAXIS OF ASTHMATIC ATTACKS. PREVENTION OF EXERCISE-INDUCED OR
COLD-INDUCED ATTACKS: 1-5mg/metered inhalation dose. 2 metered puffs
q.i.d. 2 metered puffs 10-15 mins before exercise or anticipated
exposure to cold.

Action



Inhbits degranulation of mast cells and therefore suppress
the release of histamine and other factors which can induce bronchial
hyperreactivity. Reduces production of leucotrienes also. No direct
bronchodilator activity. relieves symptoms of allergic rhinitis and
conjunctivitis as also food allergy.

Adverse Effect
& Precautions


It is
generally well tolerated and side effects are often transient. Coughing,
transient bronchospasm and throt irritation due to inhalation of
powder-in such a case a selective beta2 adrenoreceptor stinulant such as
salbutamor or terbutaline should be inhaled a few minutes before hand.



Precaution: Sudden withdrawal may lead to recurrence of asthma symptoms.
With drawal should be in a phased manner. Sodium cromoglycate has no
role in treatment of acute asthma.

Pregnancy: Use with caution.

Breast Feeding: Use with caution.

Man: May be used.
