ORGAN OR TISSUE
TRANSPLANTATION : Initially 3-5 mg/kg/day followed by maintenance of 1-3
mg/kg daily depending on response. Consider withdrawal, if no improvement
within 3 months.
RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS : 1.5-2.5 mg/kg in divided doses. Consider withdrawal
if no improvement within 3 months.
MYASTHENIA GRAVIS PATIENTS ON CORTICOSTEROID : 2 mg/kg daily dosage may
allow a reduction in corticosteroid dose.
It is an immunosuppressant, which is given orally or by IV route. It has marked effect on T-Lymphocytes and suppresses cell mediated immunity. It is mainly used to prevent rejection in organ transplantation & also useful in a variety of auto-immune disorders. It is converted in the body to the antimetabolite mercaptopurime.

Skin rash, Bone marrow
depression, GI disturbances, hepatotoxicity.
Precaution: Impairment of hepatic or renal fucntion. Monitor blood
count, to watch for infection and toxic effects. Avoid expsoure to
sunlight.
Pregnancy: Contraindicated
Breast Feeding: Not recommended.
Man: Use with caution.
