Pharmacokinetics
It is a non-halogenated glucocorticoid with a high topical: systemic activity ratio. It is reported to be more effective than beclomethasone. A small fraction is absorbed that is rapidly metabolised in the body.
Inhalation :
BRONCHIAL ASTHMA, PREVENTION OF ATTACKS:
Adults : 100-200mcg twice dialy maximum 1600mcg/day.
Children : 50-100mcg twice daily maximum 800mcg/day.
Budesonide is not indicated for acute attacks of asthma. Patients should
be instructed to rinse the mouth with water after each dosing
Locally exerts anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive actions in the nasal mucosa & the bronchial tree. Inhibits release of mediators such as histamine, leukotrienes, cytokines etc. Reverse the marked increase in eosinophils in the mucosa
Precautions must be taken in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, fungal and viral infections of airway, pregnancy and breast-feeding.
