Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration it is insignificantly absorbed. It is
administered by parenteral route, and is excreted essentially unchanged by glomerular filtration.
Second line drug for concomitant use with other appropriate anti-tubecular drugs when the first line drugs are ineffective or cannot be used because of toxicity.
Dosage: Adults: 1g daily(not to exceed 15-20mg/kg/day) given i.m for 60-120 days followed by 1g i.m. 2-3 times weekly upto 18-24 months. In case of renal impairment reduce dose as per creatinine cleareance
Care should be taken when capreomycin is used with other drugs that have neuromuscular blocking activity. It should not be administered with other drugs that are ototoxic or nephrotoxic.
Tinnitus, vertigo, leucopenia, hypokalaemia, skin, rash, urticaria, fever, pain and induration at injection site. Excessive bleeding at injection site. Abnormalities in liver function.
Pregnancy: Safety not established.
Breast Feeding: Use with caution.
Man: Use with caution.
2nd LINE ANTI-TB
Capreomycin 0.5, 0.75, & 1g, each per vial; inj
