Indication &
Dosage


 


Bacteraemia, spepticaemia, genitourinary & respiratory tract
infections. Endocaratory tract infections. Endocarditis. Meningitis
& post-operative infections. Proteus & Ps.sp.



Dosage: Adults: 1-5g i.v or 1-2g i.m. Every 4-6 hrs. Upto 30g i.v or 8g
i.m. daily.

Children: 50-400mg/kg/day in divided dose IV/IM to be given over 15 to
30 minutes IV. daily in divided doses.

Interactions

 


Digitalis: Dangerous hypokalaemia if administered concomitantly.

Aminoglycosides: In high doses synergistec action with aminoglycosides
against pseudomonas infection.

Probenecid: Enhances activity by prolonging half-life.

Adverse
Effect & Precaution


 


Platelet dysfunction, phlebitis at injection site, hypokalaemia,
hypersensitivity reactions.

Bleeding
disorders, dose adjustment is required in renal dysfunction &
congestive heart failure. Monitor electrolyte status, cardiac and renal
functions.

Pregnancy: Safety not established.

Breast Feeding: Use with caution.

Man: May be used.
