Indication & Dosage


 


IM/IV

RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTION, ENT, UTI, SOFT TISSUE AND BONE AND JOINT
INFECTIONS, GYNAECOLOGICAL INFECTINS, SPETICAEMIA, PERITONITIS AND
MENINGITIS: 750mg every 6-8 hrs. 1.5g 6-8hrly in severe casess.
Single dose voer 750mg, IV only. Infants, Children Usually 60mg/kg/day(range
30-100mg/kg/day) in 3-4 divided doses, 2-3 div doses in neonates.

PROPHYLAXIS AFTER SURGERY: Initially 1.5g IV  followed by
750mg-1.5g IM t.i.d for 24-48 hours

Oral

MILDER INFECIONS OF UPPER ANND LOWER RESPIRATORY TRACT, SKIN AND SOFT
TISSUE INFECTIONS: (as axetil) Adults: 125-500mg b.i.d. according to
severity. Children: 125mg b.i.d.

OTITIS MEDIA:  Children over 2 years: 250mg b.i.d. Others: As
above.

UNCOMPLICATED GONORRHOEA: Single dose of 1.0g

Action

 


Bactericidal for parenteral and oral use (as axetil). Spectrum
include Staph. aureus, Strep. Pyogenes, Strep. Pneumoniae, Neisseriae,
Haemophilus influenzae and Gram-negative hospital pathogens such as E.
Coli, Klebsiella spp., and Proteus mirabilis. Not active against
pseudomonas or Strep.faecalis. Specially effective against  beta
lactamase-producing strains of H.influenzae and N.Gonorrhoeae.

Adverse
Effect & Precautions


 


Skin rash, drug fever, transient increase of hepatic enzymes.



Precaution: Pseudomembranous colitis and in patients sensitive to
Penicillin.

Pregnancy: Use with caution.

Breast Feeding: Use with caution.

Man: Use with caution.
