Pharmacokinetics

 

Chlorzoxazone is reported to be
completely absorbed after oral administration and peak plasma
concentrations are achieved after 1 to 2 hours. It is rapidly
metabolised in the liver, mainly to 6-hydroxychlorzoxazone, and excreted
in the urine primarily as the glucuronide. The elimination half-life of
chlorzoxazone is about 1 hour.

Indication
& Dosage


 

Oral

IN ACUTE,, PAINFUL MUSCULOSKELETAL CONDITIONS INCLUDING SPASM &
INFLAMMATION AS AN ADJUNCT TO REST, PHYSICAL THERAPY AND NASIDs:
250-750mg t.i.d/q.i.d depending on severity. Children: 125-500mg t.i.d/q.i.d
depending on age & weight.

Action

 

It is a centrally acting agent for painful musculoskeletal conditions.
Primarily, it acts at the level of spinal cord and subcortical areas of
the brainm where it inhibits multisynaptic areas involved in producing
and maintaining skeletal muscle spasm of varied etiology. Drug also has
sedative property.

Interactions

 

The CNS effects of chlorzoxazone may be enhanced by alcohol and other
CNS depressants.

Adverse Effect & Precaution

 

Gastric irritation, nausea, lethargy, headache.

Precaution: To stop therapy if liver dysfunction occurs.

Pregnancy: Contraindicated.

Breast Feeding: Use with caution.

Man: May be used.
