Oral
Cyst Eradication, Intestinal Amoebiasis: Adults: 500mg t.i.d.for 10 days. Children: 20mg/kg/day in 3 doses for 10 days.
After oral intake the ester is hydrolysed in the lumen or the mucosa of the gut. The free diloxanide acts directly as an amoebicde. Diloxanide is given alone in asmptomatic cyst passers. For patients with active amoebic infections diloxanide is generally adminstered in combination with a 5 – Nitroimidazole such as metronidazole such as metronidazole or tinidazole.
Nausea, flatulence, itching, skin rash.
Special precaution : Not active in hepatic amoebiasis.
Pregnancy : Contraindicated.
Brest Feeding : Use with Caution.
Men : Use with Caution.
