Effect of Melatonin on Tinnitus. Laryngoscope 108:305-310, 1998.
Melatonin is a natural hypnotic which participates in the regulation of the sleep-wake cycle. A prospective double-blind, placebo cotnrolled, cross over trial was conducted to determine whether melatonin could reduce tinnitus.
Among those patients with sleep disruption caused by tinnitus, melatonin treatment resulted in significant improvement. Those patients with bilateral tinnitus also reported significant improvement with melatonin.
