The Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency Syndrome
Although the adult GH deficiency syndrome has been broadly defined, diagnosis remains controversial and arbitrary, dosing guidelines have yet to be defined. The potential for abuse of this hormone must be kept in mind, not only for improper indications such as a performance-enhancing aid to athletes, but also for clinically unproven indications such as obesity and the prevention or delaying of the aging process.
Two symptoms, however, stand out from others. These include decrease in energy and feelings of social isolation.
The insulin hypoglycemia test is an excellent test for examining not only the GH secretory axis, but also the ACTH axis.
