The Relation of Physical Activity to Risk for Symptomatic Gallstone Disease in Men
Ann Intern Med 128: 417-425, 1998
This article involves a study of 51,529 men in The Health Professionals follow-up Study in American males of the age group of 40 to 75 years. Between the year 1986-1994 a total of 45,813 were taken as a sample.
828 symptomatic gallstones disease subjects were detected and analyzed from the view point of physical activity. Endurance training revealed maximum protection from gallstones disease in the age group below 65 years. Those with sedentary life style had a higher level of disease.
It is suggested that all subjects above 40 years should begin a vigorous exercise programme. Effect in women needs to be studied.
