Postoperative Radiotherapy in the treatment of single metastases to the brain: A Randomized trial.
JAMA 280: 1485-1489, 1998.
Surgical resection plus postoperative radiotherapy is a more effective treatment for isolated brain metastasis than radiotherapy alone.
For patients undergoing complete resection of a solitary brain metastasis, the rate of recurrent cancer in the brain is lower when postoperative radiotherapy is given. Postoperative radiotherapy also reduces the risk of death from neurologic causes.
