In all trials, cisplatin-based chemotherapy administered concurrently with radiation therapy was the more effective therapy, reducing the risk of death by 30 to 50%. Based on the results of these 5 randomized trials, the National Cancer Institute released a Clinical Announcement stating that cisplatin-based chemotherapy as used in these trials concurrently with radiation therapy should be the new standard of therapy for high risk early stage and locally advanced stage cervical cancer.
