Testicular Calcifications: Incidence, Histology and Proposed Pathological Criteria for Testicular Microlithiasis

    J Urol 160 : 1625-1628, 1998

Conclusion – intratesticular calcifications were found to be heterogenous. Whereas hematoxylin bodies are rare and present only in association with embryonal carcinomas and regressed germ cell tumors, laminated calcifications are present in approximately 50% of cryptorchid tests. 40% of testes with germ cell tumors, and 4% of normal testes. The incidence of testicular microlithiasis in adult testes unassociated with germ cell or cryptorchidism is approximately 0.6%.

Laminated calcifications can occur with a wide variety of clinical entities, including the normal prepubertal testis, old testicular torsion, epididymitis, infertility, cryptorchidism, Kinefelter’s syndrome, intertubular neoplasia, and burned-out germ cell
    tumours.
