Refractive Error High Myopia

  • Karen Rose, R Harper, C Tromans, et al (Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester)

    Quality of life in myopia

    Br.J.Ophthalmol 2000; 84: 1031-1034.

This is a comparative study between a group of low (< -1D) and moderate myopes ( -4 to -9.75D), and another group of patients with a high degree of myopia ( -10D in worse eye), whose quality of life was compared with patients suffering from keratoconus.

Compared with low and moderate myopia, patients with a high degree of myopia experience an impaired quality of life similar to that of patients with keratoconus.

These criteria should be identified to enable those in sufficient need to obtain refractive surgical treatment, in view of the fact that both safety and predictability of refractive surgery for myopia is now becoming established.
