Sudden Hearing Loss as a Presenting Symptom of Acoustic Neuroma

    Am J Otolaryngol 20 : 157-160, 1999

All patients of SHL from 1989 to 1995 were reviewed retrospectively. Out of 40 patients admitted with SHL, 19 (47.5%) had a cerebellopontine angle (CPA) tumour. Brain stem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) and Discrimination threshold (DISC) tests were done to show that DISC is more useful as superior index of tumour. It is recommended that MRI be performed in young patients with SHL (even mild SHL) inspite of having normal acoustic sensorineural reflex (AR) or BAEP test.
