Effects of Sinus Surgery on Asthma in Aspirin Triad Patients

    Acta Otolaryngol (Stockh) 199: 592-598, 1999

The Aspirin Triad (nasal polyposis, asthma and sensitivity to aspirin) is a well known entity. Asthma symptom improved with medical and surgical treatment of chronic sinusitis.

In 20 patients effects of sinus surgery in aspirin induced asthma (AIA) was evaluated. It does improve asthma but not known why this occurs. Though, asthma is supposed to be first component of AIA, nasal symptoms always preceded the asthmatic symptoms has been observed by clinicians.

Also noted the outcome of sinus surgery, reduced dose of both oral and inhaled topical steroid dosages.

Health Status in Patients With Disturbed Sleep and Obstructive Sleep Apnea

    Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 122: 542-546, 2000

Between January and December 1995, 435 patients were evaluated with polysomnography and health status assessment measures.

Number of oxygen desaturations were more strongly associated with general health status measures and sleep
    – specific health measures than use respiratory distress index (RDI).

It was concluded with oxygen saturations below 85% were more correlated with sleep disturbances and poorer health.
