  • Kim SY, Mathog RH (Wayne State Univ, Detroit)

Platysma Muscle-Cervical Fascia-Sternocleidomastoid Muscle (PCS) Flap for Parotidectomy.

    Head Neck 21: 428-433, 1999

Facial deformity in the form of postauricular and infra-auricular region and Frey’s syndrome is observed in post-parotidectomy. A new technique of above combined flap is evaluated in study of 21 consecutively operated patients.

The patient had satisfactory cosmetic results and Frey’s syndrome was very mild.

G.R. Holt, uses only part of sternocleidomastoid muscle with fascia, but not platysma. In large gland defects the defect will be apparent even with the above technique and moreover the risk of masking the recurrence of the tumour under the flap does exists.
