    Spontaneous Cerebrospinal Fluid Otorrhea from a Tegmen defect: Transmastoid Repair with Minicraniotomy.

    Authors report 4 cases treated with satisfactory results. But long-term follow up is needed because second leaks develop in some patients.

         


    M.M. Paparella agrees with the fact that these could be congenital defects in tegmen. It may also result from surgical or trauma. The most important is to do imaging studies to locate the defect. Most of them can be tackled from the transmastoid approach with closure of defect by insertion of cartilage or periosteum in the epidural space below the tegmen tympani.
