Long term Results of ABO- Incompatible Living Kidney Transplantaion : A Single-center experience
Transplantation 65: 224-228, 1998
Objective – Because of the shortage of cadaveric kidneys available for transplantation, ABO-incompatible living kidney transplantation have been performed in Japan.
Results : Patient survival and graft survival of 93% and 79% at one year and 91% and 73% at 8 years. Patient survival was not affected by ABO-Incompatibility, but early graft failure at upto 3 years was significantly higher among the ABO-incompatible group. By 4 years graft loss was similar among different groups.
Conclusion : ABO-incompatible Living Kidney Transplant is an effective treatment and provides a good long term outlook. Risk factors included rejection episodes less than 6 months after transplantation and donor age greater than 54 years.
