Conclusion – Detrusor myectomy can theoretically enlarge bladder capacity without exposing the patients to the increased risks and morbidity associated with bowel interpositon.
Removal of destrusor muscle successfully imporved bladder compliance and symptoms in 73% of the patients.Myectomy was least successful in patient with neurogenic bladder. Bladder scarring of fibrosis may also pay a role, in as much as myectomy was unsuccessful in 50% of the patients with radiation cystitis.
