Identification of Patients with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic kidney Disease at Highest
J Am Soc Nephrol 8: 1560-1567, 1997
Background – Renal cysts develop in virtually in all patients with a gene of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. [ADPKD]
However, factor other than the mulated ADKPD gene itself appear to influence progression to renal failure.
Findings – Patients with ADPKD 2 gene had longer renal survival than those with the ADPKD 1 gene.
Women had significantly better outcome than men.
Patients younger than 30 years when diagnosed and those with hypertension at an age of less than 35 years had worse progress than those diagnosed after 30 and 35 years respectively.
Patients younger than 30 years who had an episode of gross hematuria also had a worse renal outcome than who did not.
