Proteinuric Gestational Hypertension

  

  • Comparison of total blood volume in normal, preeclamptic, and non proteinuric gestational hypertensive pregnancy by simultaneous measurement of red blood cell and plasma volumes.

    Total blood and plasma volume decreased significantly in patients with preeclampsia (2660 and 1799 mL/m2) compared with normotensive patients (3217 and 2279ml/m2) and patients with gestational hypertension (3139 and 2132 ml/m2). Patients with preeclampsia had significantly low red blood cell volume than did patients with gestational hypertension. 

        


    The presence of proteinuria greater than 300mg for 24 hours is meant to connote clinically more omnious hypertension. This is an attempt to demonstrate that women with gestational hypertension lack the hypovolemia commonly associated with
    preeclampsia.
